The Open University of the Netherlands (founded in 1984) is an independent government-funded institute for distance learning at university level. The OUNL offers courses, bachelor and master programs primarily in Dutch (and some in English) in the domain of Humanities and Law, Management, Science and Technology, and Psychology and Educational Sciences. The University has proved its position as an academic expertise centre for (distance) learning with a special focus on new technologies. The Open University drives forward innovation in higher education in the Netherlands, both in terms of curriculum as well as teaching methods. In its research and international activities the OU concentrates on activities that strengthen and expand its role as an international frontrunner e-learning and Open Educational Resources. These processes often take place in co-operation with specialists from other educational institutes, trade and industry and/or professionals in the educational field.
