Chulalongkorn University, named after King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who had laid the foundations for modern education in Thailand, was established in 1917 and is the oldest public and autonomous research oriented University of the country. Rich in tradition, the University now consists of 42 scientific institutions for almost 40,000 students. The Department of Performing Arts is part of the consortium of the MEDLIT-project, as its degree programs are related to the notion of media literacy, which is understood as supporting the identity construction of individuals and/or groups.

The Chulalongkorn University is the first ranked University in Thailand, which is based on the fulfilling of its claim to be the "Pillar of the Kingdom" and by keeping the University's original idea to serve the public.
