European Higher Education System & the Challenge of International Students
Train-the-Faculty Workshop
After our workshops in Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok our next Train-the-Faculty Workshop will take place at the Universiti Putra Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. This time the focus will not be on the different facets of media and media literacy, but on another level of the project: The educational structures and study programmes of the partner countries. Our external expert, Mag. Dr. Thomas Pfeffer from the Danube University Krems, will try to help the participants to develop a base for a Media Literacy programme which will be then the foundation for the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). Beside this major task European Partners will present their experience with the European Higher Education System and the challenge of large numbers of European and International students. The big challenge here is the variety of students such as exchange students but also students using the possibilities of the Bologna structure to do Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes at different Universities as well as different study programmes. All of the mentioned is possible with a shrinking bureaucratic effort thanks to the growing interconnection of the European Higher Education System.
This could be the starting point for a discussion about a more comparable and interconnected Higher Education System for the (participating) Asian Universities.
Another guest that has been invited to join the workshop in Kuala Lumpur is Dr Ibrahim Saleh from Cairo, who will be there in his role as part of the project's Quality Assurance system. He will look through the work already done during the last months, talk to all the partners and write a quality report in the end to help us ensure the project's quality. Additionally he will give us an insight into one of his fields of expertise: Journalism Education, where he has been holding the Chair of IAMCR-section Journalism Research & Education (JRE) until the beginning of 2016.
The workshop will take place from November 22 to 26, 2016.
