The University Malaysia Kelantan has opened its gates for students in 2007. The University with its five faculties offers various undergraduate programs which include studies in creative media, media communication and media technology. The Doctoral and Masters degree programs also offer specializations in creative technology, cyberology, heritage and architecture. The cyberology program enables to go deeper into the matter of both media communication and new media technology. The program claims to equip students with knowledge of theories and practices relevant to the different fields of media.

The expertise of the professors and researches, employed at the UMK in the field of media communication and technology is broadly recognized as many of the staff hold national research grants and are consultants for many national projects in this area.
